How This Site Came About:

During our planning stages for a 2008 Alaska cruise we began seeing a growing number of discounted cruise offers showing up in our email every day. This trend not only continued into the summer but began to multiply exponentially as the year progressed. Although we originally were not interested in taking a cruise in 09, we have to admit, this development we have termed Recessionary Marketing has us rethinking our position on this.

Who We Are:

We’re college students on college student budgets living in dorms and attending school in Washington State in all but the summer months when we travel home to Alaska each June. This need for travel has lead us to an unusual realization that has captured our interest. Today, we can take a 7 day cruise from Vancouver B.C. to Seward Alaska that is more or less all-inclusive for less then we can get a flight back to Anchorage. Being biology majors and having such a profound prejudice for the coastal areas of Alaska we have a difficult time seeing ourselves cramped into those uncomfortable seats found in economy class when, for less money, we can float away the stresses from finals week aboard a mode of transportation once only enjoyed by that elite crowd who had already made their place within society.

Bearing in mind that our finances are limited, we hereby claim justifiable conclusion for booking our way home on a recession period cruise deal just to save our parents money. This is proof that saving money can really be fun and we hope more people will take this time to enjoy a cruise at these all-time low prices and discover the excitement and outstanding value that a cruise vacation has to offer.

The Future Of Alaska Cruise 2009:

As we continue to follow this new marketing trend of discounting cruises we will also be watching to see the impact that this recession will have on the whole tourism industry in general and recording it for others to read and hopefully debate as this summer of 2009 approaches.

We are living in a time that is surely to make the history books our children will be studying in the not so distant future. Not since the Great Depression Era of the 1930’s has this country seen such hardships being endured by our fellow brothers and sisters. We all have studied those times and I hate to admit it but our countries people have been led into a new recessionary period and one that could have been avoided. But for those that have diligent in their finances and were lucky enough to have worked for a company that has also been on the fortunate side of this downturn, there is a silver lining to be had. That is in the great deals being offered by the Alaska Tourism Market. There really has never been a better time to take that dream vacation to Alaska.
