"Recession marketing" is in full swing within the Alaska travel industry from tours to cruise lines slashing prices in order to keep their vessels full. First to start dropping prices is Holland America Cruise Line with its “Vacation Stimulus Plan” where you will find discount priced cruises, reduced deposits by 50% and 25% off on travel insurance rates.

"Our message is to buy low and live high," says Holland America Lines executive Richard D. Meadows. "Cruise fare values are available on Holland America sailings worldwide, with prices starting at $499 NOW $399(U.S.) for seven-day Alaska cruises, $549 for seven-day Caribbean sailings and $999 for 12-day Europe and Panama Canal sailings. Deposit requirements for cruises have been reduced by 50%, plus Holland America is offering 25% savings off the cost of its Cancellation Protection Plan. Both of these offers apply to cruises departing on or after May 1."

Disney Cruises, one of the only cruise lines of it's kind, is also pushing for customers in this slow market.
